Justin Fuente (born July 30, 1976) is a former American football coach and player.
Playing Career: Fuente was a quarterback at Oklahoma and Murray State. He had a successful collegiate career at Murray State, where he earned Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors.
Early Coaching Career: He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Illinois State before moving to TCU, where he coached quarterbacks under Gary Patterson. He served as the offensive coordinator at TCU from 2009 to 2011.
Head Coaching at Memphis: Fuente gained prominence as the head coach at the University%20of%20Memphis from 2012 to 2015. He is credited with turning around the Memphis program, leading them to a 10-3 record and a victory in the Miami Beach Bowl in 2014.
Head Coaching at Virginia Tech: Fuente was the head coach at Virginia%20Tech from 2016 to 2021. In his first season, he led the Hokies to a 10-4 record and an ACC Coastal Division title. He was eventually fired in November 2021 after a string of disappointing seasons.
Coaching Style: He's generally regarded as an offensive-minded coach known for his quarterback development and innovative play-calling.
