Justin Fuente is an American football coach and former player. Born on July 30, 1976, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Fuente played college football as a quarterback at the University of Oklahoma and Murray State University. After completing his playing career, he transitioned into coaching.
Fuente began his coaching career with various assistant roles, gradually working his way up through the college football ranks. He gained prominent recognition during his tenure as the head coach at the University of Memphis from 2012 to 2015. Under his leadership, the Memphis Tigers experienced significant improvement, culminating in a 10-win season in 2014 and a share of the American Athletic Conference title.
In November 2015, Fuente was hired as the head coach of the Virginia Tech Hokies, succeeding legendary coach Frank Beamer. Fuente's initial seasons with Virginia Tech were marked by success, including winning the ACC Coastal Division in 2016 and securing a berth in the ACC Championship Game. His early achievements earned him the ACC Coach of the Year award in 2016.
Over time, Fuente's tenure at Virginia Tech faced challenges, including fluctuating team performance and increasing pressure from fans and alumni. In November 2021, it was announced that Fuente and Virginia Tech had mutually agreed to part ways.
Throughout his coaching career, Fuente has been recognized for his offensive acumen and his ability to revitalize football programs.
